Support for Ukraine

If you are one of our residents, you may have questions about how you can support Ukrainians fleeing the war in their country. We want to support residents who’d like to volunteer a spare room, and to help in other ways.

Our values are based on providing safe homes, support and bringing communities together.

The government has launched their Homes for Ukraine scheme enabling people to volunteer accommodation for a minimum of 6 months. This is to provide a route to safety for Ukrainians, forced to escape their homeland.
Volunteering a spare room as part of this scheme is a significant commitment, which we want to support you to do if you want to.

About the Homes for Ukraine scheme:

Information for residents who rent from us

It’s a requirement of your tenancy agreement to get our consent. It’s unlikely we’ll refuse but we do need to discuss your home and circumstances.

You must not sub-let your entire home and live somewhere else.

Information for shared owners

It’s a requirement of your shared ownership lease to get our consent. Once we hear from you, we can discuss your home and circumstances with you.

You’ll also need to contact your mortgage provider and discuss this with them.

In accordance with your shared ownership lease, shared owners can offer a room or rooms, but you must also remain living in your home.

You must not sub-let your entire home and live somewhere else.

Information for homeowners (100% ownership)

It may be a requirement of your lease to obtain our consent, which will not unreasonably be withheld.

You’ll also need to contact your mortgage provider and discuss this with them.

In accordance with your lease, leaseholders who own 100% of their home can sub-let a room(s) or your entire home.

There are several important things to think about before volunteering a room(s) through this scheme, which may include:

  • Whether you have enough space in your home
  • The support a refugee may need to settle in
  • Any possible impact receiving £350 per month from the government could have on your welfare/benefits payments, or other support you receive
  • The requirement to provide accommodation for at least 6 months
  • Any increase in household costs such as utility bills, that may result from having more people living in your home
  • Other things you might have to do/ provide to make it safe such as baby gates, child safe locks on cupboards
  • The terms of your tenancy agreement, lease or shared ownership lease.
