Construction begins on two new developments in Croydon

Construction has started on two new developments which will see much-needed, affordable homes, built in Croydon.

We will deliver 40 apartments for London Affordable Rent as part of a £15m scheme at Willett Road, in Thornton Heath. Building work started last month and completion is expected in Spring 2024.

This follows work commencing at our £10.4m development in Biddulph Road, South Croydon, in November 2021. The 26 London Affordable Rent homes are due to complete in October 2023.

There are around 5,000 households on Croydon Council’s Housing register, with many people waiting over 10 years for social housing (council or housing association homes). Almost 2,000 people apply as homeless each year to the local authority.

The site at Willett Road was occupied by commercial buildings used for motor mechanics and body repairs. It’s based off the London Road, at Thornton Heath roundabout, and new residents can expect to become part of a well-established community when they move into their new homes.

The eye-catching development will include one, two and three bedroom apartments, with some wheelchair accessible homes. Supporting the regeneration of Thornton Heath, it will feature detailed landscaping, wild flower meadow, planting of shrub beds, new trees and high quality street furniture. A new pedestrian/cycle route will be created from Grove Road to Willett Road.

The area has great amenities and strong transport links, with the nearest bus stop a short walk away and Thornton Heath train station within a mile. We're partnering with contractor Quantum Design and Build Limited and Employer’s Agent Calford Seaden to deliver these homes.

Biddulph Road is situated off the Brighton Road and this attractive new development will feature a mix of one, two, three and four bedroom apartments. Residents will benefit from a perfect mix of private and communal spaces.

The eye-catching three and four-storey modern building has been designed to blend in with the surrounding area. It will feature bin and cycle stores. The nearest train station is Purley Oaks, which is just over a five minute walk away and has connections to London Victoria, London Bridge and Gatwick Airport.
