New family homes at £52.8m development in Maidstone

Housing association Optivo and developer Chartway Group are looking to build 210 family homes on the 19-acre site at Forstal Lane.

The new homes will include a mix of affordable rent, Shared Ownership and outright market sale.

Outline planning permission was granted by Maidstone Borough Council in February 2018. Since then, Optivo and Chartway have drawn up a reserved-matters planning application, working closely with Coxheath Parish Council.

This covers a number of things such as design and scale and the application is expected to be submitted this Autumn.

David Jeffrey, Project Manager at Optivo, said:

Our plans have been carefully considered and will reflect and preserve the rural ambience of the area. The development will deliver a connected green infrastructure that caters for a range of uses and is easily accessible on foot or by bike, promoting healthy, happy living. Designed to encourage social interaction, the scheme will benefit both new and existing residents of Coxheath, creating a sense of community pride and ownership.”

The scheme will also include extensive landscaping and an open space of 1.85 hectares featuring a play area, ornamental orchard and a protected badger sett within it.

The aim is to start construction from March 2019 with a phased completing up until April 2023.
